When I first bought my Cherokee I knew the Edrive didn't work. It didn't even have a switch in the glovebox... as a matter of fact, it didn't even have a glovebox!! Anyway, a nice member on here (please remind me ONE MORE TIME who you were... either in this thread or in private... 'cause I still want to send you some money even though you didn't want any) sent me one, and it sat in my shop for two years. Well I finally got off my butt today and hooked everything up. I crawled behind the wheel... and the %$#@& thing wouldn't start!! I primed the carb, as I have to do occasionally, and it fired up. I reached for the switch, flipped it... and nothing happened on the dash although I did hear "shhhhhhhh". I flipped it back and forth, back and forth, back and forth until I got a flicker... on, off, on, off, on, off... steady light!! I know how to spell emergency!!! Well, I turn it off and on a few more times and it obediently does the same. I pulled over into my side yard where I have a big rock I can pull a wheel up on... I drop it into low (if for no other reason than it had been awhile since I had done it), flip the switch... and NOTHING... NADA... ZIP... bad word, bad word, bad word... I flipped it back and forth a few times with still nothing. I pull on down to the rock and it comes on anyway. I play around in the yard for awhile, climb a couple of hills and the rock. I can sure tell a difference!! I pulled across the driveway and could tell the Edrive was in (only a few feet).
Now here's the problem... the Edrive light now won't turn off. I flipped the switch off and the light stays on. I flipped it off and turned the truck off... then back on and there it was, mocking me in its brightness. It continues to mock me still!! Somebody help me before "The Tell-tale Heart" comes to life in my driveway...
It still gives me more reason to get that locker in though!! I'm gonna wheel that puppy soon!

to me, i wouldnt care about the dash light as long as you can turn on pavement and it doesnt feel like you're gonna explode. my light goes in and out, but i hear the vac and you can tell if its in. but yes, e-drive is cool.

Even though I said I could tell the Edrive was in, I'm not experienced enough with it to be sure it's not engaged... I definitely hear the "shhhhhh" of the vacuum releasing when I take it out of Edrive, but I CAN'T be sure it's not still in. I hate being ignorant of how certain things work...
I would guess the light is on when the sensor is grounded. Maybe the sensor is stuck on or you have a cut in the wire that is grounding it out. I have no clue if thats how that sensor works, just a guess as to a couple possible issues. Good luck.

If your hearing the vacuum, it might be a cracked vac line. It is kinda loud, but might check to be sure. If you have a hand vac pump, you can get under and check the vac motor itself. I had one that had wear through spots on it and took quit a bit of searching to find it.
Just a thought....

Best way to tell is make a hard turn on dry pavement. Your tires will jolt like as they turn. Do not do it more than you need to. It is hard on the components not to mention what it is doing to your tires. It will be real noticeable in E drive. If it also does that in normal drive then your cones need some attention or replaced.
As far as the light the switch might be a little sticky from no use.

How does the switch operate? On vacuum or electricity (and yes, I realize that is ultimately sends electricity to the dash but it could be a vacuum operated switch)? I was surprised to feel what I thought was a vac line running to it... or was it electrical wire covered in a sleeve? I thought about the non-use thing, which is why I kept working the switch. I ran all new vac lines from the in cab to the hardlines and from the hardlines to the switch on the transfer case. What other lines could I have missed? Or could it be in the switch on the case?

You can mess things up with weak vac to the switch on the Qtrack. Pm Flint on how to make sure all is working correctly.
When E-drive works right, it is unstoppable. Sometimes you have to go into reverse (I always do) and roll back some for the light to flickr off.
Also it's prolly flickering, not engaging well because you're doing it at idle. Put it N, rev it up to 3k to build up vac and try it. Bet it pops right on.
I bought a little volvo cruise control vac pump I am going to hook up to a summit vac cannister for my set up..part time kit REALLY needs to have the vac strong and engaged well.

I prefer the Edrive light to be functional because it can be a diagnostic tool for knowing WTH is going on. :D The light in Krista's 76 Waggy is on all the time and the wire is not even hooked up. That poor Waggy is a wiring nightmare. I am getting to the functional stuff first though. A Mighty Vac hand vacuum pump is a key diagnostic tool for the vacuum system also.
Paul - see here - on our QT page? This should give you idea how it works.

Oh yeah, had a copy of this I printed off of your site. Everything is hooked up just right. It works... just bothered me that the light wouldn't go off. I'll try backing up. I take it the light stays on (if the Edrive indicator switch is working) as long as the control diaphragm is engaged?
One little light... LOL...

OK... went out, cranked it up, and no E light. Turned the knob, nothing... revved it just a bit and the light came on. Turned the knob back and it went off. Did this several times. It all worked like it was supposed to. I guess it just needed to be worked a little bit. Put it in E, made a turn in the drive, and it shuddered. Took it out and it was smooth. Guess it's working ok now!! Thanks for the suggestions, folks...

What a adventure.
I knew there was a reason I got rid of my q-trac many years ago. Now I just throw a lever and I'm in 4WD. :D

I know, I know... I've been considering the 727/300 combo really hard... but now that I have two and gonna have three Qtracs here pretty soon I guess I'll stick with them... I like that 2.57 to 1 lowrange...

One little light... LOL...The shaft on the vacuum shifter pushes the steel ball in the indicator switch to turn on the light. Glad to hear it started working!

So I take it that it's just a big fat sleeve over the wire that goes to the E drive indicator switch? Does it just pop off (for when I change cases here in the next month or so)?

My 4wd light comes on for no apparent reason all the time... Its not a problem because of the front locker: If I was in 4wd I would know it immediatly.
