I know BJs has replacement taillights... not sure if they just have the gaskets. Why don't you go to their site and see?

If those are on BJs, I haven't seen them. Have seen round ones for Gladiators on their site thou. I been looking for the gaskets for a while (at least a couple a years). Foam stamping dies are cheap. Wonder what a set of foam gaskets is worth.

I don't think anyone has reproduced any of the tailight lenses or gaskets for J-trucks. We're stuck with finding NOS or good used which I think is almost impossible with the gaskets.

You might look at either 60s ford pick-ups or maybe the mavericks they had a similar shaped lens

Do you think there that similar?

Don't think the gaskets would be that much of an issue as you could probably make them but the lenses are a different story

I remember seeing a J10 somewhere (ebay i think) that had ford lenses on the rear. At a quick glance they weren't noticeable. Once pointed out it was obvious they didn't fit the hole.

I looked at late sixties chevy truck tail lamps, close but no cigar.
Most of the other makes tail lamps just weren't as slender as the ones on late J Trucks. I'm going from memory and it could be failing me now. :D

Hi guys. I picked up a set of taillight lenses from a guy selling 2 J trucks... 1 running. I had called zm jeep to find the lense and he said they were 75 apiece due to VERY limited supply... I cracked both my lenses but I do have an extra L and R gasket. Whoever needs it please let me know. Not looking to make anything off it. Just help out someone in need as I appreciate all the help I recieved here so far as a new J10 owner...

ThanksWell I'm pretty sure there the same. I owned 5 Broncos over the years and just got into FSJ a few years ago. First time a walked behind a J truck I saw Bronco tail lights. AMC used allot of parts for other manufactures... Hope these work.

Can someone post up side by side pics for comparison?

While close, the taillights between a bronco and J-truck are different.

There not the same, Bronco looks a little fat and mounting is top and bottom center only
Anybody else know where one might find originals?

Loctite Makes a rubber O-ring repair manufacture kit. It uses both round and square rubber blanks to make the item. has a fancy tool that holds both ends of the rubber while the glue is drying (some form of super glue formulated for rubber). I wish I could give you a part # but I have not worked for the company that I used this item for the maint. I preformed. You may find it on a loctite web site or another industrial adheisive site. There was also another companies product we used that had a flat blade soldering iron that would weld polyurathane rope together using the same type of holding sqeezing contraption.

Ive glued the black gaskets back together a few times with super glue and the glue joints hold up, but then it breaks in some other spot. Ive been looking for some extruded elastomer "P" strip material with a cross sectional profile close to the originals. I'm not sure what the original size was thou and mine are brittle and have probably shrunk. If I find some, I planned using the o-ring glueing kit that you suggested. Ive also used plastic welders before mostly on polypropylene and am considering using it on the imfamous cracked HDPE J-Truck fuel tank(only after steaming it out of course).:D
Thanks...

At the risk of sounding a little whacky, I used to get up early on Saturday morning's to watch Classic Car Restoration on DIY Television (before there were a hundred cheesy restoration shows on the tube), and I remember an episode where they had to create replacement taillight lenses for an old Packard, when no repro parts were available.
They used some sort of silicon mix (hey, Im no chemical engineer) that was poured into a mold and allowed to dry, and it created a perfect replica of the old stock taillight.
I did a little searching and heres the link to the show notes:

I havent needed to yet, but always thought about trying this out.
