I'm doing the Distributor Cap and rotor upgrade posted in the technical library. Man this is gonna be cool!!
Is there a checklist to make sure the motorcraft distributor is working properly? I know the diaphragm on the vacuum advance works.
There is a slight click when the gear moves back and forth (but i really don't forsee that as a problem since the gear only moves in one direction).
Without disassembling the rest of the distributor:
Can I lube the shaft? What should I look for?
I'm pretty clueless on this one (if you can't tell already).

TIA,
Kong

Th slight twist movement is the mechanical advance... it's supposed to be there.

Just go get the parts and do it!!! You'll be amazed!!!

If it is running fine... JUST DO IT!!!! you won't be sorry..... :D

I am thoroughly impressed with the improvement!

I bought my cap&rotor(Conrad p#F2103G,same quality as MSD with brass terminals),cap adaptor(Wells p#F958)and an Accel Superstock coil from either Autozone or Advance. I bought the MSD 8.5 wires(p#31349)from Summit.Used Bosh platinum plugs set at.040.

One thing to check is to take the rotor and try to move it side to side. Any side to side movement means bad bearings. TFI upgrade should be required for all FSJs (that and replacing all the vacuum lines) smile.gif

Are you guys talking about the basic upgrade, or the mild upgrade??
Did i read it correctly,is the mild upgrade an addition to the basic upgrade?

I used the accel cap and rotor. It has the brass terminals and when compared to the other cap and rotor (at Checker) the other had a thinner plastic body. You also need to get the disributor spacer. They only had one choice, but after I thought about it, it is just a spacer.

I can't seem to find the part # for the accel cap and rotor, but the spacer # is: Niehoff #ff-79a.
That was the hard thing to find. 'cause everybody at AutoZone, NAPA, and Checker gave me a blank stare when I told them what I was doing. tongue.gif
One dude at Auto Moan said, you can't do that. And I asked, why not? And he said, 'cuz. Then I laughed at him tongue.gif

Kong a distributor spacer?? What does it space out. It that in addition to the cap adapter? I'm going to do the tfi upgrade and hadn't heard of a spacer.

Some folk call it a spacer, some call it an adapter. It's the same thing. It fits on the distributor (and lifts the cap 2.5" or so). Then the new cap fits on it. Make sure you take the little side clip off the distrib, put the spacer/adapter on and put the clip back in! That'll help square that thing up a bit better.

Good Luck,
Kong
